Summer is all about the sun, the beach and frozen treats! On hot summer days nothing quite hits the spot like ice cream. Local ice cream parlors can cure any ice cream craving. Check out these Long Island ice cream shops and make your summer a little bit sweeter.

Coyle’s Ice Cream

Coyle’s was founded in 1985 serves 60 different flavors of ice cream that are made in-house. Try the Black Out of 65, a sundae with rocky road iced cream, fudgee wudgee and brownie nut fudge ice cream. If you are looking for a refreshing minty flavor, try the Fire Islander sundae, with mint chip, cherry garcia and Oreo ice cream, topped with hot fudge and marshmallow. You can even take a trip back in time and enjoy a Brooklyn egg cream and malt. Local Burger even uses Coyle’s Ice Cream in their delicious milkshakes which pair perfectly with a burger and fries.

Ice Cream Cottage opened up in the spring of 1990 and has been a local favorite ever since. Their homemade ice cream includes 48 different flavors. Smithport Splash has vanilla ice cream and a chocolate cherry bonnet mixed in. Mastic Mash has vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and the cottage mix of toppings including sprinkles, crunchies, gummies, Nerds candies, etc. In 2016, Newsday presented the Ice Cream Cottage the best ice cream cone on Long Island award. The Ice Cottage not only has delicious ice cream but they also have a variety of tasty cones to choose from. Some of their cones varieties include, wafer, double wafer, chocolate waffle, chocolate chip, pretzel and M&M.

Snowflake Ice Cream opened in 1953 and have been making their own ice cream onsite ever since. They offer homemade hard ice creams made with premium ingredients, soft serve, sorbets and sherbets. Snowflake has a variety of unique flavors and uses local ingredients, their Salted Caramel ice cream is made with local salt from Shelly Sells Sea Salt. Their fruit toppings are made from the best local and seasonal fruits. Snowflake is a great place to stop after a trip to the Tanger Outlets or on the way to the vineyards on the East End.

Hildebrandt’s

Hildebrandt’s opened in 1920’s and this old-fashioned restaurant hasn’t changed since. Their diner style food paired with homemade ice cream has kept Hildebrandt’s running for over 80 years and even landed them a feature on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Some homemade ice cream flavors include chocolate mint wafer, banana foster, lemon meringue pie, cappuccino chip, maple walnut, and a plethora of seasonal flavors.

Herrell’s Ice Cream has been family owned and operated since they opened in 1973. This ice cream shop has over 300 flavors of ice cream and offers sugar-free, dairy-free and vegan options. Their high-quality ice cream is made right in-house; some ice cream flavors include burnt sugar and butter, malt vanilla and mint cookies and cream. They also have gourmet flavors such as arctic brownie, blueberry muffin, cheesecake strawberry swirl and peanut butter ‘n’ jelly.

Rodger’s Frigate is a huge shop located on Main Street in Port Jefferson, filled with every sweet you can think of. For over 30 years, this sweets shop has been adding new things to their menu; some of their treats include hard ice cream, soft serve ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, gelato, frozen yogurt and more. Ice cream flavors include coffee mud pie, monster cookie crunch, and midnight cookie.

Gemelli Gelato opened its doors on Friday, May 18th. Enjoy delicious gelato and sorbetto in the Hampton Bays, it’s a great way to spend time with family and friends on a warm summer day or cool summer night. Some flavors include rainbow cookie, rum raisin, peach crumble, banana with nutella and caramel with chocolate covered pretzels.
