Taste on the Beach #LBIFF18

The Long Beach International Film Festival celebrated its 7th anniversary, screening over 50 independent and studio films from around the globe. Long Islanders headed down to Long Beach on Friday night for Taste on the Beach inside the Allegria Hotel followed by Shorts on the Beach.

Taste on the Beach featured a variety of tapas from local restaurants and vendors as well as wine, craft beer and cocktails from Pops Wine & Spirits in Island Park. There was also live music inside and out to get the party started.

Spuntino’s is known for putting a modern twist on classic Italian dishes by serving up locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. Since ribs are a summer BBQ must-have, Spuntino’s prepared pork ribs that were tender, juicy and came right off the bone.

Verde Kitchen & Cocktails is known for their authentic Mexican cuisine, including their tacos and ceviche. They served the perfect summer night dish for this beachfront event, Ceviche del Dia. Don’t miss Tequila Festival at Verde Kitchen & Cocktails on October 6 th where you can enjoy high end tequilas and mescals, street tacos and Oaxacan style BBQ.

B Greek kitchen is a family owned restaurant that makes authentic Greek specialties including gyros, souvlakia and meze appetizers. Attendees got to enjoy a taste of Spanakopita (spinach pie) ,greek salad, and other bite-sized delights.

388 Italian Restaurant and Catering served up some of their Tuscan style, home-cooked cuisine. Attendees got to sample penne alla vodka laced with a creamy homemade sauce.

The Garden City Hotel is a Long Island landmark for over 145 years.  In May, celebrity chef, David Burke revamped the Red Salt Room, including his signature Himalayan sea salt dry-aging technique that he uses to prepare beef and the salty but sweet Candied Bacon on a Clothesline. At Taste on the Beach, foodies got to sink their teeth into a sweet treat; Burke’s decadent butterscotch panna cotta and bananas foster. Seasons 52

Seasons 52 is known for crafting up American favorites. At Taste on the Beach, Seasons 52 filled little shot glasses with mini indulgences. This was perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth without damaging your waistline.

Twizzles Tasty Treats are homemade confections crafted with care and of course chocolate! All the truffles are made with fair trade chocolate in small batches that come in a variety of flavors. They even have vegan options including pumpkin spice, dark raspberry, peppermint and Mexican coffee.

Pops Wine & Spirits in Island Park supplied the beer, wine, cider and liquor for the cocktails for Taste on the Beach. Whether you’re looking to throw a summer soiree or just something new to sip and savor, the drinks below are sure to satisfy.

Craft Beer

Looking for some new beers to cool off to this summer? Drink local and try the Flying Belgian Brewery Belgian Blonde and Illegally Blonde beers. They’re light-bodied, easy to drink and perfect for beating the summer heat wave. Brew SA’s American Pilsner is perfect for pairing and is only 4.9% abv.

Seasonal Cocktails

Friday was National Watermelon Day, the ideal day to enjoy a watermelon cocktail. SKYY Infusion Sun-Ripened Watermelon Vodka and lime juice was the perfect light, refreshing and fruity cocktail at Taste on the Beach.

Cider

Even though autumn is the best time of year to drink ciders, 1911’s Honeycrisp Hard Cider is a summer must-have. It’s semi- sweet and the perfect gateway drink for wine lovers.

Wine

This summer its all about rosé! Clara C Fiori Rosé Brut is a sparkling wine from northeastern Italy is made of 80% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Grigio, and 5% Glera. Forget the mimosas, pour this Rosé Brut during brunch or the next girls night out.

Grapefruit wine started trending in Paris during 2016 and gradually made its way to the states. Ruby Red Grapefruit Rosé Wine has a luscious pink color and a sweet tart finish. It’s great chilled or topped off with champagne or prosecco.

Afectus Rosé is a wine from Vinhos Verdes, the largest wine producing region in Portugal. It’s made with an Espadeiro grape variety, a red Portuguese grape used to make light-bodied wines. It pairs well with light summer foods including salads and seafood.

Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc + Viogner is a blend of 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Viognier. Grapes from Chenin Blanc are considered the “Gem of the Delta.” Enjoy this crisp, bright aromatic white wine this summer.

Dig for Diamonds

At Taste on the Beach, SVS Fine Jewelry from Oceanside, had a booth where people could Dig for Diamonds! If you donated $20 to Cohen’s Children’s Hospital, you could dig for 20 seconds. Four lucky winners won Forevermark diamonds in the sand.
